I was born in Norwich, Norfolk England and trained as a teacher specialising in art and ceramics at The University of London Goldsmiths College.
After teaching for three years I left work to devote time to my family. As the children became more independent I was able to pursue my passion for painting, converting an enjoyable hobby into an especially enjoyable profession.
Over the years I have explored different mediums and methods of painting, from loose pallet knife oils to very precise watercolours. After many years of painting landscapes I had a change of direction into still life and portraits.
To compliment my new interest I attended a course on Classical Dutch Oil Painting. This gave me the opportunity to learn more about the preparation of gesso grounds, the technical processes and the different painting mediums. I have used this knowledge to give my paintings a similar look to the Dutch Masters. Working from life I explore a variety of compositions and a range of sizes from large to miniature.
Since 1983 I have had many solo and joint exhibitions locally and in London. I have also completed many commissions.
I am an active member of The Royal Miniature Society of Painters, Sculpture and Gravers.
I have been keen to pass on my painting skills and have taught at Adult Education Centres for many years. In addition to painting I am a keen gardener and also enjoy sailing on the Norfolk rivers and broads with my husband, Bob.
